Grow Avalon is a nonprofit, resident-driven organization that works to create a diverse, safe, vibrant community focusing on economic development, social services and restoration.

 

Welcome to the Avalon neighborhood of Pittsburgh! We are situated along the Ohio River, a mere 10 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh with easy accessibility to Interstates 79 and 279. Our 5,300+ residents enjoy a neighborhood that includes a wealth of community resources and businesses while maintaining a small-town feel. We are named after the legendary island of Avalon, "land of apples,” on account of several orchards were in this area. We are home to Northgate School District - GO FLAMES!

The Avalon Public Library

The Avalon Public Library was founded in 1940 with the aim of serving everyone equally through its lending services and access to information. The mission has evolved over the years, but remains rooted in our past.

Their Mission: Preserving Yesterday, Informing Today, Inspiring Tomorrow Through Exploration, Discovery, and Achievement 

 

Parks & Recreation

Avalon is home to a public pool, four community parks and baseball fields with paved track! Shelters may be rented for private events. Click the link below to learn more about our parks and recreation.

 

Stone Soup Garden

A beautiful community garden sits at the corner of Hemlock Street and South Chestnut Avenue and is a certified wildlife habitat! Although all plots have been reserved for this season, the garden may be visited and enjoyed by all residents.
